The Business Model of TSMC
TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) is a semiconductor manufacturing company. The core of their business is the advancement of semiconductor manufacturing methods. Companies that design chips, such as AMD, Apple, MediaTek, ARM or Nvidia, can have their designs manufactured by TSMC. TSMC works in the range of 2 microns to 7 nanometers. These sizes do not denote physical distances, but are to be understood as marketing tools. TSMC has an annual capacity of thirteen million 300mm wafers (as of 2020). By 2023, TSMC plans to move to 3-nanometre technology, which is seen by some as the physically smallest possible manufacturing process. With this timetable, TSMC would overtake its only competitor in the 5 nanometre range, Samsung.
