The Business Model of Owlet
Founded in 2013, Owlet has taken the pulse oximetry technology used by surgeons to monitor oxygen levels and pulse via the finger and applied it to a wireless sock for babies. Owlet's Smart Sock is able to monitor heart rate and oxygen levels. The sock is connected to a home monitoring device that can provide alerts in case of an emergency and transmit data in real time to a connected app. The aim of Owlet is to provide parents with a sense of security through education and information, and to alleviate their worries about sudden infant death syndrome. The four co-founders of Owlet are all young fathers themselves.
