The Business Model of Decentraland

Decentraland is a virtual reality 3D platform consisting of 90,601 plots (~23 km2). In the virtual, decentralised ecosystem, you can buy virtual real estate and land ("LAND") and create your own worlds in which you can move around with your own avatar. The virtual world becomes a game consisting of the most diverse worlds. For example, one can play against each other in arenas, explore medieval-themed worlds or play for luck in a virtual "Las Vegas". Users acquire property in the form of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) and resell, lend or monetise them on the platform. Trading and payment takes place in the cryptocurrency "MANA", which is based on the Etherum blockchain, was made public in 2020 and is managed by the non-profit organisation Decentraland Foundation.
