The Business Model of MOIA

MOIA is an independent tech company from the Volkswagen concern, which was founded in 2016. MOIA provides a ride pooling service as a mobility solution to reduce individual traffic in big cities. They help people to get comfortable, flexible, affordable, and eco-friendly from A to B. They officially started their ride pool services in 2018 in Hannover and 2019 in Hamburg. MOIA owns a fleet of over 270 electric vehicles, designed and produced by VW. The golden MOIA+6 car is the first fully electric vehicle ever designed and engineered for ride pooling. A MOIA car is spacious and has free-standing seats for 6 passengers plus the driver. With the MOIA App, people can easily sign up and book a trip by entering a pickup location, destination, and the number of people riding. MOIA then shows its users three different offers with the estimated arrival time and price before the booking is confirmed. Users pay directly via the app with PayPal, apple pay, or by entering their card details. The prices are between 6-9€, depending on different factors like day, time, distance, etc. . An algorithm then processes all the rides and calculates the route, departure, and arrival time of each request and assigns bookings with similar routes together and optimizes the journey so that there is only a minor detour for the passengers. MOIA service hours differ on holidays and other special occasions. However, they drive every day till at least 23:00 and earliest from 07:00. Furthermore, MOIA is investing highly in R&D for autonomous driving as they strive to be an autonomous mobility provider.
