The Business Model of Cewe
The company was founded in 1912 by Carl Wöltje in Oldenburg, Germany, as a "Photographische Anstalt". In 1961, Heinz Neumüller, Carl Wöltje's son, founded Cewe, a company that is still going strong today, and had a large photo laboratory built. In the meantime, Cewe has 27 sales offices, 14 production plants, and more than 20,000 trading partners in Europe. CEWE operates in three strategic business segments: Photofinishing, Retail, and Commercial Online Printing. Cewe's popularity is strongly attributable to Cewe photo books, which were delivered 5.67 million times in 2021. However, the bestseller is still the normal print photos on photo paper, which were printed 5.65 million times in 2021. Cewe also offers many other articles such as photo calendars, photo gifts (mugs, key rings, cushions, etc.), greeting cards, mobile phone covers, Advent calendars, and much more.
